About JCIC

History of JCIC

The Japan Center for Intercultural Communications (JCIC) was established in 1953 not long after Japan regained its independence from post World War II occupation with the coming into force of the San Francisco Peace Treaty. JCIC was founded by private-sector volunteers under the recognition that it was the lack of mutual understanding between countries that brought on the tragic war. The aim was to establish Japan's presence in the international community through overseas communications activities and realize peace and prosperity in Japan.

In light of rapid changes taking place in the global media, JCIC was re-inaugurated in 1980 under a new structure. The objective was to carry out more effective intercultural communications by utilizing emerging new media.

With a focus now on intercultural communications activities utilizing information technology and international telecasts, JCIC continues its work to provide information related to Japan through effective utilization of various communications media.
